21 Things I’ve Learned* at 21

A bit existential - but then when am I not?

1. I don’t have to always know why I’m feeling what I’m feeling — God knows me better than I do (Psalm 139:6).

2. Loving people is both a blessing and a command given by God (Matthew 22:36-40) - there is a reason why it gives life to my soul!

3. Spending time with God may look different, depending on the day. That’s ok, just spend time with Him. Get in the secret place, get alone with God, every day. Even if it feels overwhelming, or I’m scared to for whatever reason. He is more gracious than I can possibly imagine, and that time is necessary for the well being of my soul.

4. I was really emotional in high school (lol).

5. Sometimes, it’s just not that deep!

6. I have autonomy over my thought life. I can choose what and how to think about things.

7. I don’t have to compare myself to anyone - it diminishes who God created me to be.

8. If comparison is the thief of joy, gratitude is the giver of it.

9. Live radically in the present. Too much time in the past leads to depression, and the future to anxiety.

10. It is a command to not worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34).

11. It is a command to not worry. About anything (Philippians 4:6 tells you what you should do instead).

12. Over planning my life can actually make me more stressed.

13. Checklists and schedules easily become idols.

14. I don’t have to operate out of fear of depleting my own personal time and energy. God’s strength will provide, I have seen that! (*this is not an excuse to purposefully burn yourself out)

15. Don’t feel guilty for not being “productive”.

16. God is not a God of confusion. Trust He will make things clear in time.

17. The Holy Spirit lives and moves in me, and to become acquainted with Him is to become acquainted with who God created me to be.

18. How about I never have my life figured out? Instead I’ll trust that God is in control, and take one step at a time. Life’s so much more fun that way — and a lot more freeing!

19. It’s actually so awesome to have no idea what my future holds.

20. If you think and talk about something less, it takes up less space in your life.

21. Live each day like there is a force inside you that is the same force that raised Christ Jesus from the dead. Believe that this day has a purpose, no matter how mundane it seems. Trust that His plan is unfolding, and know that you might not see it until the end.
